We all remember taking out our memory cards and bringing them to friends' houses.  Since the next-gen consoles have hard drives, the best you can do is to take a flash drive and put your saved files on there.  The console with detect your save files and you can copy them over.  It's not as convenient, but it works.

Maybe you guys already knew this, but I recently found out that you can replace the hard drive in a PS3.  Sony dosen't market this feature and you don't see PS3 hard drives on the store shelves like you do for the 360, but if you are brave enough, you can do it.  It turns out that the PS3 not only uses a PC power cord, but it also uses regular old 2.5 inch SATA notebook (laptop) hard drives formatted in FAT32 (doesn't seem to work using the NTFS format according to what I've read).  I found instructions for how to do it on a few sites like Games Radar and IGN.  It looks a bit more complex than swapping hard drives on the 360, but it does look do-able.  Part of it is saving your files to a USB key like you mentioned in your post.  To get at the hard drive, you don't have to take the PS3 clear apart like I was afraid you might, there's a door on the side of the PS3 that you can remove and then unscrew the drive bay's mounting brackets.  From the articles, it sounds like you need screwdrivers that fit the screws perfectly as they are in there pretty tight and are fine threaded.  I don't have a PS3 and we haven't had any requests to have this done at our store yet, so I haven't personally tried doing it yet.  If I do, I'll let you know how it turns out.
